More than 4,500 celebrate Earth Day at EarthFest and EarthWalk
Cool temperatures and cloudy skies didn’t dampen the spirit of area residents who came out to The Theatre in the Park at Shawnee Mission Park on April 19, 2008 for the fourth annual Kansas City EarthFest and 12th annual Kansas City EarthWalk.
Eco Elvis started off the morning – energizing walkers with his eco-friendly tunes before the kickoff to the 2.7-mile walk that is an annual benefit for Bridging The Gap. Nearly 600 people braved the brisk spring temperatures, including 59 teams that cumulatively turned in more than $13,000 in pledges. Walkers had the option to raise pledges for the chance to win eco-friendly prizes donated by local merchants.
After the EarthWalk, Mr. Stinky Feet and the Hiccups gave the opening performance to EarthFest, which featured 95 exhibitors and vendors.
